Objectives and activities

General objective

To promote responsible consumption of safe, healthy and sustainable food, produced within an efficient circular economy framework in the Canary Islands, Madeira, Azores, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal and Ghana, increasing the food and economic independence of these territories.

Specific objective 1

Identify hazards from food intake and nutritional characterisation.

1.1. Identification and characterisation of animal and plant products of interest for sampling. Planning and carrying out sampling.

1.2. Monitoring of organic contaminants in plant and animal products: pesticides, antibiotic residues, plastic migrants and mycotoxins.

1.3. Monitoring of nutrients and inorganic contaminants (heavy metals, trace elements and rare earth elements) in plant and animal products.

Specific objective 2

Promote the sustainability of food production within an efficient circular economy framework

2.1. Strategies to minimise the use of plant protection products. Protection of soil biological activity and agricultural biodiversity.

2.2. Organic fertilisation: transforming organic waste into high‑value agronomic products. Carbon footprint.

2.3. Introduction and promotion of agroecology practices

Promote responsible food consumption. Triple-S foods: safe, healthy, and sustainable

3.1. Population perception surveys on the circular economy and food safety.

3.2. Risk assessment from intake: integrating consumption data, risk characterisation and nutritional assessment.

3.3. Joint strategy to raise public awareness: food safety, responsible consumption (local and/or imported products) and healthy diets.
